Description
Anastrozole is an active substance from the group of non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors. Aromatase is an enzyme that is significantly involved in the production of estrogens. Estrogens, in turn, promote the growth and metastasis of estrogen-dependent tumors such as breast cancer. By blocking aromatases, the remaining estrogen production decreases even further during and after menopause. In addition, anastrozole directly inhibits aromatase in tumor cells. And thus limits the growth and spread of cancer cells.
The performance-enhancing effect of anastrozole in female athletes is explained by its estrogen-reducing effect. For example, as estrogen concentrations fall, less water and less fat are stored in the body. This gives female athletes weight advantages, for example.
