Description
Anastrozole – belongs to anti-estrogenic drugs and is synthesized specifically for the treatment of breast cancer, a common disease among women today. Anastrozole was the first drug to enter the class of 3rd generation aromatase inhibitors. Anastrozole is able to reversibly bind aromatase through a competitive inhibition pathway, and the drug also inhibits the process of converting androgens into estrogens, which are found in peripheral tissues.
Anastrozole side effects
Generally, the side effects that occur when taking aromatase inhibitors include hot flashes, joint soreness, general weakness, rapid fatigue, severe mood swings, depression, increased blood pressure, swollen hands/feet, and headaches. There may also be a decrease in bone mineral density, which can lead to osteoporosis and an increased risk of fractures. Occasionally, GI problems may occur, as well as nausea and vomiting. It is categorically forbidden to use during pregnancy, because it is possible to disrupt the development of the fetus. When using drugs of this kind by men to reduce estrogen for a long time can lead to the development of cardiovascular diseases due to the inhibition of the positive effect of estrogen on cholesterol levels.
